The Cougar Collective is a multimedia online literary magazine that publishes student works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art, and photography. Each issue of the magazine runs for two or three months, and focuses around themes and topics not only of student interest, but also from curriculum across grade levels. For example, our current issue is focusing on empowerment, independence, and diversity; students are exploring empowering language in ELA, felt the need to explore independence with the pain of Valentine’s Day approaching, and a desire to celebrate diversity of one another after a divisive election. Our biweekly meetings focus on writing, creating, editing, site building, and networking with students throughout the building. Moreover, meeting time is filled with collaboration, admiring impressive work, listening to records, and connecting a casual, creative, and inclusive level.
